Child & Adolescent Psychology

About

Child and Adolescent Psychologists have a particular interest in assessing and treating psychological problems that arise in childhood and adolescence.

This can be a time of both disorientation and discovery and can cause issues of independence, self-identity, peer pressure, stress and anxiety.

Psychology can assist in the transitional stages and our therapists provide evidence-based models to understand the causes of the difficulties and apply strategies to assist with them.

A thorough assessment usually involving the parents, teachers, and other key support people is undertaken to understand the situation in depth.

Individual sessions and group counselling to support issues such as:

  • Behavioural difficulties or oppositional behaviours

  • Shyness and social anxiety

  • Depression and generalised anxiety

  • School refusal

  • Eating disorders

  • Stress and time management

  • Family change and adjustment (e.g., divorce/separation, grief and loss)

  • Conflict resolution

  • Peer pressure, bullying and/or difficulties with social situations
